BA&DF is a leading fair for Belgian art and design taking place at Arsenaal, Gentbrugge from 19 to 22 October 2023. BA&DF aims to be a unique, idiosyncratic platform for Belgian art and design.

Through three open calls, BA&DF gives young artists and designers a chance to show their work. The works will be shown at the fair but will also be included in BA&DF’s social media channels, website, and programme. 

For whom?

This open call is intended for students and/or who have graduated up to 3 years of age in an art or design direction, such as visual arts, textiles, glass and ceramics, (interior) architecture, product design, etc.

Three candidates will also receive additional visibility, they will be promoted by Different Class through social media, video, and interviews.

Open Call

As a leading fair, we are actively looking for young emerging talent with contemporary, idiosyncratic and surprising works and images that put you as an artist or designer in the spotlight. We give you complete freedom in terms of shape, material, style and dimensions. We are interested in both two and three dimensional work. Whether old or new, existing or modified, even a work in progress can be extremely interesting. Our goal is to give these talents an opportunity and help them achieve a successful future in the arts or design.

Why

With more than 10,000 visitors, the BA&DF offers a large audience that will see and admire your work and of course you can get in touch with the participating galleries in this way. In addition, you enjoy exposure on our social media and the website.

Three candidates will also receive extra visibility, they will be promoted by www.differentclass.be/ via social media, video and interviews.

Regulations

  • You must deliver the selected work yourself, install it if necessary and collect it.
  • If desired, the work can be sold. In that case, 30% goes to the organizer of the fair.

How to participate?

  • Register via www.ba-df.be/youngtalent.
  • Enter your name, study programme, date, and title of your work.
  • You will then receive a code for submission.
  • Send a digital file containing images and an explanation of your work(s). Also send a short description along to content@ba-df.be with the subject line YOUNG TALENT.
  • The deadline for submitting your work(s) is September 1, 2023.
  • Want to submit more works? This is possible. In that case you will receive multiple codes.

Selection

  • The curators of BA&DF act as jury.
  • The candidates are selected on the basis of the submitted work.
  • Each work is judged on the basis of concept, authenticity and professional execution.
  • Several works are allowed, as long as they are always accompanied by a corresponding file.
  • Judging is completely anonymous.

Open Call

We are looking for young talent with video work of a minimum of 1 minute and a maximum of 15 minutes that can be shown on its own and through one video channel. Think of short films, experimental video, digital moving images, collages with sound, video clips, animations and the like.

The work you submit can be both old and new, existing or modified work, even a ‘work in progress’ can be interesting.

Open Call

Design and manufacture a table that is suitable for use in the bar area of ​​the BA&DF fair, so that both visitors and exhibitors can eat and drink. Therefore, make sure that the table is stable. All tables will be combined with the black Series 7 chairs, designed by Arne Jacobsen for Fritz Hansen, also known as the ‘butterfly chair’.

We are looking for young talent with surprising designs that put you in the picture as a designer. As a designer you have complete freedom in terms of shape, material, style and dimensions.

Why?

With more than 10,000 visitors, the BA&DF offers a large audience that will see and use your design. The name of the school, the field of study and the designers of the tables are mentioned on the table itself, as well as on social media and the website.

If desired, the tables can also be offered for sale. In that case, 30% of the selling price goes to the stock exchange.

Rules

The tables can only be designed by students who are still in school or have graduated within the last three years.

How to participate?

  • Sign up www.ba-df.be/design-table.
  • Digitally send your design of a table to be made or some photos of your already made table to content@ba-df.be before September 1, 2023, together with the dimensions, choice of material and other information.
  • Based on the submitted designs and photos, the fair’s curators and the scenographer will make a selection of tables that will furnish the bar area. The faster you apply, the faster you get an answer or you can participate.
  • Delivery and (if necessary) assembly of the table by the designer will take place on October 16, 2023.
  • Collection will take place on Monday, October 23, 2023.
